Charlton Manor Primary School: A story of innovation and commitment
I first saw Charlton Manor's motto "Res non Verba", which means "Deeds not Words", when I reported on the school's Farmers Market on 13th Oct 2018: https://bit.ly/2NVnMdy
This motto is embedded in the School culture for teaching and learning, to ensure pupils become autonomous, imaginative and collaborative learners. The aim is to meet the needs of every child and centre the learning, so that they can achieve their full potential, now and in the future, equipped with skills for life to enable them to be motivated, confident, driven and independent individuals. Charlton Manor offer an enriched, innovative, and relevant curriculum, with extensive and unique facilities and opportunities, supported by the Head Teacher Tim Baker and his staff.
"We started by growing the food, teaching the children where the food came from."

The school mission is designed to empower, care for, and support children in a positive manner, with hard work, enjoyment, and creativity being at the heart of the teaching and committed to raising attainment, with no limit on learning, success and children's development.
"Delivering the National Curriculum through Food" is central to the school mission: food education to teach children how to grow food, prepare and eat healthy diet - for a cultural change in the eating habits of children through practice. The aim of this post is to share Charlton Manor's inspiring story with schools everywhere to educate and promote public health messages about obesity and other preventable conditions. Currently, Charlton Manor and The Foodiez are working together on a collaborative project: 'Childhood Obesity & Oral Health: A plan for action'.
Our objectives:
- Generate data for health researchers to study causal links between using Delivering the National Curriculum through Food, childhood obesity and oral health, preventable conditions;
- Create positive narratives about food education and wellbeing within the school community and the home;
- Generate data for shared learning with schools everywhere.
To this end, a food app is being developed for a trial at Charlton Manor. On 26th Feb 2019, a group of teachers, developers and invited parents met to discuss and set up a Poster Parents Group to test the food app. We look forward to working with a well-informed and committed Poster Parents Group.
